Healing Circles @ The Center for Hope and Healing, Inc.
Mar 31 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Our Healing Circles offer survivors a safe space to express their feelings and share their stories. While every survivor’s story is unique, connecting with others who have had similar experiences can be life changing. We currently have two Healing Circles, one in English, and one in Spanish, that meet bi-weekly. Both groups are 18+, all-gender, and drop-in, which means participants do not have to sign up ahead of time.

Suicide and Suicide Risk in LGBTQ+ Youth @ Saint Michael Parish
Apr 3 @ 9:30 am – 12:45 pm

Description:
Despite elevated risk of suicide and suicidal behaviors in LGBTQ+ youth, many helpers in the mental health, school, and health communities do not have the training and knowledge to support these youth and their families. This in-person workshop by the Greater Boston PFLAG will focus on LGBTQ+ youth issues and why this population is at higher risk. This in-person workshop will provide context about what LGBTQ+ youth are facing as well as define terms such as gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression.

A highlight of the presentation will be a panel from the LGBTQ+ community and parents who will share their stories.

Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
1. Describe three risk factors and three protective factors in suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ youth.
2. Summarize current research in suicide and suicidal behaviors across the LGBTQ+ lifespan.
3. Explain the difference between gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation and sex assigned at birth.
4. List two strategies for making their clinical work more supportive for LGBTQ+ youth.

Grupo Para Sobrevivientes de Violencia Sexual @ The Center for Hope and Healing, Inc.

GLADLY is a group for high school aged LGBQ/T young people to come together once a week and give voice to their experiences while being in community with others. We share resources and stories with one another while providing relevant psychoeducational tools related to coping with things like dysphoria, transitions (social, legal, and/or medical), and other things that may be coming up in their lives. We also set aside time to engage in creative self-care activities like drawing, painting, beading, etc.
