Hope Prevents – Shifting Paradigms for Prevention

Our approach to preventing sexual violence is based on the fact that hope builds resilience and gives us the ability to get through tough times and recover more quickly from setbacks. Through dialogue, training, education, organizing and policy change, we can shift the cultural acceptance of sexual violence. Our program title reflects the foundation of hope in all we do to prevent sexual violence at all levels. CHH’s Hope Prevents programs break through barriers to resources by providing historically underserved communities with culturally and community specific education, self care strategies, and opportunities for change.

Priority Populations

We aim to prioritize those who have historically not been served: youth, (primarily youth of color), LGBQ/T communities, refugees and immigrants, and people with disabilities. In knowing that 91% of perpetrators of sexual violence are men, we also prioritize engaging men and boys as allies against sexual violence because we know they are statistically part of the problem and invaluable to the solution for ending sexual violence.

Hope Prevents educates through centering some of Lowell’s most underserved populations: Black women & Girls, T/LGBQIA+ communities, Men & Boys, and Youth. Our educational approach is facilitating inclusive workshops, presentations, and conducting outreach to support awareness raising.

What is prevention? Preventing violence happens at three levels:

Black women and girls are a priority population that Hope Prevents works to center. We create sacred spaces for participants to show up whole, build community, and live in joy.
